Here are two important and opposite cautions in loving Christ.
First, He’s to be loved in all of his perfections, not just the lowest-common-denominator ones. It is probably OK (or even important) for churches to have general evangelical statements of belief – but, regardless, it is not OK for individual Christians to have that be the sum total of their beliefs. Love Christ in all the details of his nature and work.
Second and opposite, as you seek to love Christ in all these details, do not get distracted from the truths that most evangelicals do agree upon. It’s almost a tautology, but if you never think about the things that all Christians believe, you’ve forgotten what it means to be a Christian.
